Registering your dog with AKC, UKC or CKC
Most people don't do anything with a registration. It's an added cost on its face, many unscrupulous and idiotic breeders charge thousands extra for the "papers" thinking they constitute a contract of some kind, and unless you're showing, breeding or active on the competition circuits your puppy really doesn't need registration papers from its litter. That's why we don't offer "papers". Now, I won't refuse it if you want to pay us a few thousand extra with no benefit to you, but I would have to "bless your everlovin' heart" as the Southerners say. I would also question your capacity to enter into a contract :)
If you choose to compete or show later, you can register under the various registration bodies' single registration programs.

UKC Limited Privilege RegistrationComplete the UKC Limited Privilege application
• Dogs must be spayed or neutered. Please provide a spay/neuter certificate confirming alteration of the dog. If spay/neuter certificate is not available, please have a licensed veterinarian complete and sign the application. • To list the dog as a purebred, two recent and clear photographs must be provided. One photo of the full front of the dog including facial features and one view of the side in a standing position. • To transfer a Limited Privilege dog, the purchaser of the dog must submit a written statement along with the previous registrant’s Limited Privilege Card. The new registrant will be issued a new Limited Privilege Card. Registering with CKCThe CKC or Continental Kennel Club accepts all comers. To me, it's a registry, but not a very legitimate one. It's used by lots of mixed breeds and dogs of random parentage. It accepts pedigreed dogs and non-pedigreed dogs. On their website it doesn't look like they've had an event since 2011. If you feel like you need papers for your dog, you can have them for $50. Not sure if they come with gold star or not, but that's about all these papers are likely worth since no events are listed. Breeders often enroll with this club if they feel they need papers as a marketing effort. If a breeder pays enough money, the site will let you use a website badge saying you are a "preferred breeder" and/or "breeder of merit" if you pay them $100, plus $50 per year thereafter. Mind you these are the breeders that probably won't expend enough time and effort to invest in health testing for breeding dogs in order to gain legitimate authority. Beware the website sticker breeders. Who really comes to check them out to make sure they're adhering to all the proper moral standards (read: paying the $100 bucks)? Usually, no one.
